5 NEW Book-to-Screen Adaptations to Read Before You Watch

From classic rom-com to post-apocalyptic sci-fi, 2026 is rife with titles being adapted for the silver screen. With release dates right around the corner, now's a great time to get started on your read-throughs! After all, you won't be able to say "the book was better" if you haven't done your due diligence.

1. Revenge Wears Prada  - Release date: May 1st, 2026

Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep reprise their iconic roles in The Devil Wears Prada 2 this year, reuniting Andy Sachs and Miranda Priestly as they navigate a fashion industry—and media landscape—that has changed dramatically since the original film.

But did you know Lauren Weisberger's original novel is actually part of a book series? The second book, Revenge Wears Prada, takes the story in a completely different direction. It follows Andy as the successful editor of a bridal magazine, happily preparing for her wedding—until Miranda Priestly inevitably re-enters her life. Once you finish book two, keep following Andy's world in the third installment, "When Life Gives You Lululemons."

2. Remarkably Bright Creatures - Release date: May 8th, 2026

Shelby Van Pelt’s debut novel is a hopeful and heartwarming story of loss, mystery, and unlikely friendship. Buoyed by commercial success, it was scooped up by Netflix in 2024 for a film adaptation and released in May 2026, starring Sally Field, Dan Payne, and Lewis Pullman.

3. The Dog Stars - Release date: August 28th, 2026

This post-apocalyptic science fiction film adaptation, directed by Ridley Scott and starring Jacob Elordi and Margaret Qualley, will be hitting screens this August, which gives you plenty of time to dig into Peter Heller’s powerful novel about a pilot living in a world filled with loss and what he’s willing to risk to rediscover love.

4. The Book of Magic - Release date: September 11th, 2026

Alice Hoffman’s Practical Magic series explores the witchy lineage of the Owen’s family and the curse that thwarts their attempts at finding love. The first book (Practical Magic) was adapted in 1998 with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman starring, and they will return in “Practical Magic 2”, an adaptation of “The Book of Magic”. With 4 books in this series, there’s plenty to dive into.

5. The Love Hypothesis - Official Release date to be announced

For fans of the fake relationship trope, this contemporary rom-com is sure to please both on the page and on the screen, with Lili Reinhart and Tom Bateman set to star.
