What’s happening at the Ocean Park Library?

Curious about the progress being made at the Ocean Park Library? Let’s get you caught up!

On Saturday August 16, the Ocean Park Library officially closed to the public, and the very next week the staff started boxing up our approximately 12,000 item collection. We also cleared out all the cupboards and closets and desks and every other nook and cranny, storing most of it in the large storage container you’ll see in the parking lot, and bringing very little of it over to our temporary location. Since we’re refreshing and changing out everything from paint to electrical to flooring to new furniture, we were able to donate most of our old furniture locally.

The Columbia Pacific Heritage Museum graciously accepted our display case and stained glass panels, the Dylan Jude Harrell Community Center received most of our tables and chairs, and the Ocean Park Camp and Retreat Center took a few pieces as well. I’m so pleased that these items will continue to be useful on the Long Beach Peninsula.

We've settled in nicely to our temporary location at 1910 Bay Avenue, next to Forgotten Treasures. We are grateful to be able to continue providing library services throughout our library's remodel. We’ve managed to wedge in about 1000 items into the space, as well as the copier and couple of internet computers. Oh, and your holds are there, and we’ve got wifi for you as well! We’re there Tuesday – Saturday, opening at 10am, closed for lunch from 2-2:30.

Come and see us, we’re giving small but mighty.

Oh, and by the way, we’re on track to reopen in December, so check our Facebook page for pictures and continued updates. We'll keep you posted!
