Our Books for Kids by Kids Collection showcases the incredible talent and creativity of some of the youngest authors across the library district. Featuring wonderful books you simply won't find anywhere else, like First Name Banana, Last Name Guy, Silly Cars Christmas, and the short tales of Mega Lunker and Candle Fish, this collection is a chance to be inspired by these authors' first works before they're famous.
After getting its start at the Lacey library in 2023, more libraries have been adding these small but exciting local author collections every year. And now you can find books for kids, by kids at the Centralia and Chehalis libraries! In January, each branch invited kids to craft their own books to be featured. In Chehalis, they decided to focus on protecting animals in the jungle and created the masterpiece Tropical Cats! Later in the month Centralian kids explored the topic of superheroes fighting on the moon and created the exciting book Moon Woman! (A warning to any squeamish readers-there’s some pretty intense alien violence in there.)
How to Get Your Young Author's Books on the Shelf
My favorite thing about this collection is that every kid in our community can be part of it. If your young author has their own exciting idea, or has even written a book of their own already, you can drop by the library to donate a copy at any time and we’ll add it to the collection so everyone can enjoy it. Although they each local collection primarily features the work of kids from the surrounding community, these books can be placed on hold and sent anywhere throughout the district for kids and adults to enjoy.
You can put a hold on them and other books by kids on the list below. I’ll keep adding to it as the collection grows, and your book could be next!
