Most people know that every one of our Timberland libraries provides access to books, DVDs, CDs, computers, and printing. Or at least I hope they do! What you might not know about are the wonderful Libraries of Things that vary depending on which library you visit. From Discover passes, to musical instruments in Tumwater, fishing kits in Packwood, and our very own “Gadget Library” in Chehalis.
Thanks to the generous sponsorship by the WSU Master Recycler Composters of Lewis County and funding by Washington State Department of Ecology you can come to the Chehalis library and check out various tools from the “Gadget Library” just like books! This way you get the chance to borrow something you only need occasionally, or to try it out before deciding to buy it. Visit the library and go home with a film scanner, or a thermal imager, or a moisture meter, or a home movies digitizer, or….
Borrowing from the Gadget Library is a little different so keep in mind that you can’t put a hold on these items - they’re all first come, first served. If you want to see what’s available right now you can view the collection in the catalog, call us and ask, or drop by and hope you're lucky! Gadget Library items also cannot be renewed because we want as many people as possible to get a chance to use them. Which can be helpful if you need the pressure of a due date to get that new project started. I know a good deadline has given me the push I needed in the past when I was intimidated by the prospect of organizing a bunch of old family photos as a gift. If you want to do something similar you can borrow the home movies digitizer for three weeks and save some great memories from an old dusty closet before the holidays roll around.
Whether you're digitizing memories, doing some home construction, or going on a camping trip-we have a gadget for you. What do you think you’ll check out first?
