FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 20, 2025
Timberland Regional Library is proud to present Olympia-based musician and ethnomusicologist Javoen Byrd as a headlining performer for the 2025 Summer Library Program.
From June 3 through June 13, join Javoen for 25 dynamic, interactive drumming workshops hosted at Timberland libraries and Anywhere Library mobile stops across Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, and Thurston counties.
These engaging programs invite participants of all ages to explore the rhythmic traditions of West African and African American music. Attendees will learn about the language of the drum, the historical and cultural roots of drumming, and participate in a high-energy, hands-on performance that connects history, music, and community.
Javoen Byrd is the Executive Director of The Hawk Foundation for Research and Education in African Culture, offering educational programs that celebrate and deepen understanding of African and African American cultural heritage.
