We all love to talk about the weather and young kids are no different! Did you know incorporating activities related to weather can be beneficial for early learning? Observing the weather invites us to use all of our senses and to connect with the world around us. If you make it a habit to observe and talk about the weather on a daily basis, it also helps kids to notice patterns and changes over time. Kids are curious, and observing the weather can lead to all kinds of questions and predictions. In libraries, we often focus on early literacy, but encouraging kids to observe, ask questions, and make predictions is what might be considered early science! Of course, there are plenty of opportunities to talk, sing, read, play and write about the weather.
Luckily, our newest bilingual storytime series is all about weather. You can join us for storytime on Zoom with plenty of opportunities for interaction. We have also created a guide that includes book titles, song lyrics, and early learning ideas to try at home. The activity guide and storytimes are presented in both English and in Spanish. All levels of language ability are welcome! You can get started by downloading the activity guide and registering for the event.
