Talk, Sing, Read, Write, Play
Play is such an important part of early learning that it is one of the core practices that libraries encourage caregivers to do with their young children. The idea is that doing these activities regularly with young children will help develop their literacy and language skills. As grownups, sometimes we think about playing and learning as separate activities, but kids learn so much through play! Imaginative play can help build language skills, active play helps kids understand how to use their bodies, constructive play (i.e. building with blocks) can help develop problem-solving and an understanding of cause and effect. Play is also a great way for children to build relationships with peers as well as with caregivers.
Our newest bilingual storytime series is all about play! Join us for stories about play, fun songs to get us up and moving, and a game with our little mouse friend, Ratón. To go along with the storytimes, we have created a guide that includes book titles, song lyrics, and early learning ideas to try at home. The activity guide and storytimes are presented in both English and in Spanish. All levels of language ability are welcome! You can get started by downloading the activity guide and registering for the event. Bilingual Time takes place on Zoom and you will need to register to get the Zoom link. Jugar es una parte tan importante del aprendizaje temprano que es una de las prácticas fundamentales que las bibliotecas animan a los cuidadores a realizar con sus hijos pequeños. La idea es que realizar estas actividades regularmente con niños pequeños ayude a desarrollar su alfabetización y habilidades lingüísticas. Como adultos, a veces pensamos en jugar y aprender como actividades separadas, ¡pero los niños aprenden muchísimo a través del juego! El juego tiene muchos aspectos diferentes, por eso los niños pueden aprender tanto a través del juego. El juego imaginativo puede ayudar a desarrollar habilidades lingüísticas, el juego activo ayuda a los niños a entender cómo usar su cuerpo, el juego constructivo (es decir, construir con bloques) puede ayudar a desarrollar la resolución de problemas y la comprensión de la causa y efecto. El juego también es una excelente forma para que los niños construyan relaciones tanto con sus compañeros como con los cuidadores.

Celebramos el bilingüismo y la alfabetización temprana así que hemos creado una guía de actividades para apoyar el aprendizaje de su niño en los dos idiomas.
