Timberland Regional Library
Serving Grays Harbor, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, and Thurston Counties
Purpose
To reinforce to parents and guardians that younger children must be accompanied in the library and that Timberland Regional Library (TRL) staff do not accept responsibility for the safety and security of unattended children.
Scope
This policy applies to all TRL libraries.
Policy
Children seven (7) years of age and under must be accompanied by and be under the direct supervision of a parent designated caregiver who is thirteen years of age or older.
Children eight (8) years of age and older may use the library unattended.
TRL staff do not provide custodial care or surveillance of unattended children.
Parents are responsible for the actions of their children including their children’s access to library materials.
Everyone, both adult and children, must comply with the Behavior Expectations Handout and the Disruptive Behavior Policy.

By the enactment of this policy the Board of Trustees of Timberland Regional Library is concurrently rescinding any prior policy or procedure within TRL that is either in conflict with or expansive of the matters addressed in this policy.
